A message from Rex

March 12, 2003

Hello To All:

Well, it was quite a Fall in 2002.

In early November I spent the night in the hospital with what I thought was food poisoning. They checked me from one end to the other and found nothing. The doctors finally let me go after checking my heart. They thought that there may have been a problem there. But, thank goodness my heart is strong.

Deanna and I went to Texas for Thanksgiving with her family. It was great to see them and our oldest Wade. He and his girlfriend Chris are a great couple. Deanna, her Mom, sister Gayla and brother Keith put together one fine feast. We spent a week there and then headed back to Vegas for the Fair Buyers Convention with Gladys and LeRoy Van Dyke.

On December 6th I went into the hospital for colon surgery. The doctor removed six inches of my colon as well as two polyps. The good news is that there is no cancer. We didn't really expect to find any so that wasn't a surprise.

Wade, Chris, Cody and Logan arrived for Christmas on December 16th and I was getting around OK by then. I still wasn't going to win any races, but at least I could drive and help Deanna a little. I couldn't lift anything, so Marcus and Deanna set up the Christmas lights and tree. Deanna does such a wonderful job with Christmas. All in our family can't believe how she can make the house so festive. What a gift she give us each Christmas.

Well, then I fell apart again. On December 22nd I turned yellow! And the pain! Deanna and the boys took me to the hospital emergency room and I was told that my gall bladder had failed! So, on  the afternoon of December 23rd I had emergency gall bladder surgery and spent Christmas in the hospital. I don't know how Deanna did Christmas. She had to be in at least two places at once.

The doctor let me out Christmas night so that I could spend a little time with the family. Thinking back now, that was too quick. I hurt a lot. Deanna put Wade and Chris back on a plane that night, picked Wyatt up from the airport and got Cody and Logan on another flight the 26th. Wyatt stayed through December 30th and we went back to work in Indio, CA with LeRoy Van Dyke on January 11th!

The first few weeks we were on the road were pretty tough. There isn't any way that I could have made it through all I went through without Deanna. I'll never know how she did it. To say that she is a strong and loving person is the greatest understatement in history. She kept this family together. Without her there would be no family.

I guess that the kids had a good Christmas. I don't really know! I was pretty much out of it.

The shows through February have gone great. I hope that some of you got to see them. I was working with just me and my guitar. So much more I can do that way. I can't do those kind of shows with a band. It is nice to work that way once a year.

I seem to be losing my friends. Ol Mike from Wichita to name just one. What a great guy. I guess we are all getting older.

I hope that you all had a good holiday season. Come and see us if you can.

Rex
